Conference 2008: Scholarship Awards
Guidelines for Submission:
What this is:
This year SPEMA will be awarding three scholarships to the following: one undergraduate student, one graduate student and one adjunct faculty member. These scholarships are designed to provide financial support to attend the SPEMA conference, Technocracy: image production/distribution/consumption, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, PA from November 7–8, 2008.
What the winners get:
Each student and adjunct faculty member selected for a scholarship will receive a cash prize of $300 to be used towards attending the conference; a waiver of the conference registration fee; first choice of portfolio reviewer; and during the conference, the winners’ images will be shown. Scholarship winners will receive their award at the conference.
Who is eligible:
Current SPE members (undergraduate, graduate students and adjunct faculty) who reside in the Mid-Atlantic region (PA, DE, NJ, MD, DC, WV & Northern Virginia)
Deadline:
October 15th, 2008
Notification:
Winners will be contacted within two weeks of the conference.
What to send:
- Send an email message to s*****@gmail.com containing your name, address, phone, email address and school/year in the message body. Also include the name and e-mail address of a photo faculty member at your school who can serve as a reference.
- Attach a one page resume as a Word document with your last name as the title (e.g. smithresume.doc)
- Attach a 1 paragraph artist’s statement describing your body of work, again as a Word document with your last name as the title (e.g. smithstatement.doc)
- Attach 4–6 images saved as 72 dpi jpegs, with a maximum dimension of 8 inches. Please title each file with your last name and the number of the image (e.g. smith1.jpg, smith2.jpg). Work can include photography and photo-based media, including installation.
- Attach a list of your images, including the number, title, size (of image, not paper or frame), date, and media (e.g. 1. Untitled. 14” × 14”, 2007, toned silver gelatin print). Send this as a Word document (e.g. smithlist.doc)
