The ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW 2008	Deadline: March 1, 2008
The ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW 2008 is an international exhibition of photographic art which will take place April 25 - May 23, 2008 at the elegant Lyceum Theatre Gallery, located in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego, California. The Opening Reception Gala will be on Friday, April 25th, and will be a world class event! WEBSITE: www.artofphotographyshow.com CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Prospectus and entry details are available here. The online entry process is very easy, simply filling out a short registration form and then uploading your images as JPEG files. Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (i.e. shot on film, shot digitally, unaltered shots, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photograms, etc.), so long as part of the image is photographically created. JURIED COMPETITION: Carol McCusker is the Judge for the Art of Photography Show 2008. Dr. McCusker is Curator of Photography at the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego. She has curated over 40 exhibitions at MoPA and has written numerous books, catalogs, essays and articles on various aspects of photography. Carol McCusker is highly respected in the global photographic community, so it's a significant honor to be selected by her. DISCOUNT: Artists who entered any work in any previous Art of Photography Show or Art of Digital Show will receive a $15 discount towards The Art of Photography Show 2008. SHOW CATALOG: We are producing a superb Show Catalog, which will feature every image which is in the Show and an artist statement about the work. Artists who are in the Show can obtain as many copies of the Show Catalog as they like for free, which can be used for promotion and marketing of their work. MARKETING & PUBLICITY: The Art of Photography Show 2008 will be pursuing an intensive marketing and publicity campaign to bring maximum media attention to the artists who are juried into the exhibition. Over 20,000 people are expected to view the Show during the four-week run at the Lyceum Theatre gallery, which is open (free) seven days a week. So, the artists and their work will receive a tremendous amount of exposure by the media and the public. SALES: One of our key aims is to sell the work that is exhibited at The Art of Photography Show 2008. The Center for the Photographic Image (CPI) is a nonprofit membership-based organization whose mission is dedicated to furthering the knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of the photographic arts by creating an environment for discussion through education and exhibitions. Since 1973 Light Work has provided direct support to artists working in the mediums of photography and digital imaging through exhibitions, lectures, classes, artist residencies, publications and other related projects. Light Work's aim is to support artists in the production of new work and to provide a forum for artists from outside Light Work's geographic area to interact formally and informally with our local community.

In 1981, a group of artists and committed citizens began exploring the subject of the visual arts in Maryland, focusing on two primary concerns: the common needs of visual artists throughout the state, and the desire of many citizens to have more access to and information about artists working in Maryland. The Maryland State Arts Council recognized the inherent value of these concerns and the importance of a venue to facilitate the communities’ needs. In such, the Arts Council granted funds to form an organization that would further this group’s pursuits in promoting contemporary art. This dedicated group, became the founders of Maryland Art Place (MAP), and led the organization to incorporation in 1982. MAP remains committed to fostering an environment conducive to the growth of contemporary art in Maryland, and has sought to fulfill its mission through broad-based programming which offers artists and the public a variety of avenues for challenging interaction and advancement.

Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA) is a nonprofit legal services organization, founded in 1978 to provide pro-bono legal assistance, educational programs and business counseling to artists and cultural organizations. PVLA has recruited hundreds of attorneys from Philadelphia and the surrounding region to support our mission of serving the arts. Volunteer attorneys work on projects such as negotiating performing contracts for actors, dancers and musicians; protecting copyrights and trademarks; preparing by-laws for newly formed nonprofits; negotiating short- and long-term workspace leases and exhibition agreements; securing protection of artwork; and setting up new community-wide arts initiatives, to name a few.

Silver Eye Center for Photography is the only non-profit organization in Western Pennsylvania dedicated solely to the understanding, appreciation, education and promotion of photography as an art form and as an expressive form of visual communication. Soho Photo Gallery is a not-for-profit cooperative foundation, managed and operated by a membership of over 100 artists. The gallery was founded in 1971 by a group of freelancers and fine art photographers in a small Soho space. They moved a few years later into neighboring Tribeca, building the gallery in the spacious rooms of a former egg warehouse. For three decades the gallery's mission has been the showcasing of achievement and talent of every variety. Notable photographers who have exhibited at Soho Photo include Andre Kertesz, Minor White, and Eva Rubinstein.

Our museum mission emphasizes teaching and learning through the medium of photography. This is not only because we have our roots in an educational institution, but also because we recognize the importance of the visual and photographic in our culture. Photography is perhaps the most ubiquitous of all the visual communications in our culture and it is, in many ways, the most democratic and accessible. The meanings conveyed by photographs are often complex and open-ended.
